Training Sessions

Avon offers a wide variety of different opportunities to learn the game, play and train.  If you're interested in joining us please come down and give polo a try.  The following section provides you with all the information you'll need, but please contact us if you have any questions.

Also be sure to check the Avon community page for more informal training and paddling opportunities.

You will need to have basic kayak skills to play and train with Avon, if you are looking for basic kayaking lessons then you will need to go to another club first.

Outdoor Polo Pitch in Bristol's Floating Harbour

Avon has developed a dedicated, safe, outdoor pitch on Bristol's historic floating harbour, which is co-managed by Bristol Canoe Club as a joint venture. This 'Bristol Canoe Polo Pitch' was set up to support grass roots polo in the local area.  Click here for more details and the latest news from BCPP.  Directions and parking information can be found by clicking on the map.

Check the calendar or the Avon Facebook page for all the details of outdoor sessions.

Equipment

Avon is able to offer a number of boats and other equipment to borrow at the Kingswood pool. These are on a first come, first served basis.  Individuals should bring swimming gear, a rash vest (or T-shirt) and any canoe polo equipment they may already own.  Please note this will be checked where appropriate to make sure it is safe.

If you need to borrow equipment, please contact us before coming to a session so we know what the level of demand will be.

Membership and Fees

Avon membership costs £18 per month (£15 for students) which runs throughout the year and allows attendance at the Sunday pool training sessions and all sessions on the Bristol docks.

The club also offers a family membership at the same cost as a standard membership that allows one family member to attend each session. Ad-hoc session attendance is also possible without membership at a cost of £12 per pool session or £10 per docks session.

Competing as part of an Avon team in the regional and national leagues is available to anyone who has paid at least three months membership through each membership year (Sept – Aug).

Membership is managed through the Spond app, allowing the member to control their membership fully.

Avon is a not-for-profit club with all membership going towards the club running costs.

If you would like to join the club or just find out more about us, please use the form in the contact section.

Finally....

Don't take our word for it, Avon invited Made in Bristol TV's 'The Source' to try their hand at Canoe Polo.  See how they got on.
